2008 Great American Bake Sale – How You Can Participate

Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale is a national campaign that mobilizes people of all ages to help end childhood hunger in America by holding bake sales in their communities. More than 4 million people have baked, bought, or sold goods to end childhood hunger in their communities by participating. Since 2003, nearly $4 million has been raised to make sure no child in America grows up hungry.

The 2008 Great American Bake Sale launches on March 1 and concludes on June 30. Proceeds are granted to organizations in communities nationwide to help provide at-risk children with nutritious meals when they're needed most – during summer, and after school.

Now is your chance to help children in need year-round! Consider hosting a bake sale for move-in and move-out days, as well as during parent day at your camp!

The Weather Channel and the National Environmental Education Foundation Launch Dynamic Environmental Education Program for Youth
The Weather Channel and its affiliated foundation, Landmark Communications Foundation, announced a $2.5 million donation to the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF). The funds, to be contributed by the Landmark Communications Foundation over the next five years, will be dedicated to creating an interactive, web based environmental education program that will ultimately reach and impact 20 million American high school students.

The new program draws on expertise and content from The Weather Channel's Forecast Earth properties and The National Environmental Education Foundation's innovative educational programming. High School students and teachers nationwide will be invited to design this program from the ground up to make teaching and learning about the environment easy, accurate, timely, accessible and effective for any subject taught in high schools.

A Forum for Parents and Youth Professionals

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA*)has just launched a new forum – Parent Power - on its Web site www.casacolumbia.org to engage parents and child and youth professionals in a conversation about how to keep kids alcohol- and drug-free!

CASA wants to learn about your experiences in talking/listening to children about alcohol, marijuana, pills, and other drugs. What works? What doesn't work? What are the questions you want answered?  Your comments will be used to help shape CASA's second book, Parent Power, a guide to raising healthy and substance free children, which will be published in 2009.

To share your thoughts, questions, and ideas simply log on to www.casacolumbia.org and click on the Parent Power link.  Share now and you can be apart of creating the best book ever done to help raise healthy kids free of drugs and alcohol!

*The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University is neither affiliated with, nor sponsored by, the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (also known as "CASA") or any of its member organizations, or any other organization with the name of "CASA."
